Last Chance

Hi all
The last chance was fished in the best weather it’s ever been fished in. It was tough going on the day but Tony Daly came out on top very well done Tony his first win, all the hard work has paid off.
This result didn’t effect the top of the league table which will be sorted out as soon as we get our computing issues sorted at this end.
The result is as was after the intel trophy Gianluca has one the league for the first time well done Luca.
Hope to see you all at the agm for the presentation and on Sunday in carton estate for the pike comp.

The intel trophy

Hi all
The intel trophy was fished in scorching weather with the river at a record low of .12 mtrs. It was very tough for this the decider in the league, if any one of the top 5 won this competition they also won the league. The winner on the day was Gianluca who fish hard to catch the biggest fish of the day very very well done Luca.
The top of the league stands as follows after this comp

1st Gianluca Paulella 21 pts
2nd Jason Nolan, Dermot Mitchell & Chris Haynes with 18 pts
3rd Michael Callaghan 13 pts
4th Eduard Dondea 11 pts

If no one can over take Luca in the last chance this could be his year.

The Green Peter

hi all
A quick round up of the green peter comp, it was fished in sunny beautiful weather however someone should have told the the trout. This wasn’t going to stop or winner Hugh Bassett who returned the largest fish to win on the day well done Hugh. The results of the Green Peter didn’t really effect the top of the league, we will have to wait until the intel trophy to sort this one out.

Trout league table problems

Hi all
We are having problems updating the league table, we can change values but can’t move people up or down the table so before this Saturday’s comp I will list the contenders here
Current standings
1st place Jason Nolan on 18 pts
2nd Dermot Mitchell and Chris Haynes on 17 pts
3rd Gianluca Paolella and Michael Callaghan on 12 pts
4th Eduard Dondea on 11 pts
With a possible 9 pts for a clean sweep up for grabs this Saturday any of the above could win the league, hopefully they all turn up on Saturday and we get the final comp shoot out for the league trophy we were denied last year due th bad weather. See you all Saturday.

The Clonanav Cup 2018

Hi All
The Clonanav Cup was fished on Saturday last after being changed to the Liffey due to extreme low water levels in the Rye. A very very very warm evening treated the anglers who fished it and bites weren't that easy to come by, although one angler had 2 bats try to snatch his sedge off the surface, luckily enough nether of them managed to hook themselves up. Not many fish were caught however we did have a winner. Michael Callaghan won this round with the largest fish on the night well done Michael, Jason Nolan was second and very thankful he didn't have to take a hook out of a bat, our defending champion Chris Haynes was third. Well done to all who fished on a trying night and well done to or winner Michael Callaghan.

The Leixlip festival Competition

Hi All
The Leixlip Festival competition was fished on the weekend and what we expected from our 2 rivers is not what we got. On arriving at the car park the Liffey looked in great condition for an evenings fishing, we had no sooner said that and the Liffey water levels rose dramatically to the point it was almost un-fishable. Most anglers headed for the Rye instead due to the sudden rise of level in the Liffey only to find the Rye full of flood run off and while not too deep it was very coloured so tough conditions all round for all the anglers who turned out. Aidan Crean defended his title with a lovely trout of 16.5 inches, Dermot Mitchel was second with a 12 inch trout & we had joint third with Michael Callaghan & Tony Daly both catching an 11 inch fish, Tony also collected the most fish bonus point for having the most fish over 8 inches on the night, well done to all who fished on quite a tough evening. Lets hope the ESB don't try to drown us next year.

Return of the anglers dread

Hi All
A short video sent in from the river some well outnumbered Olives & clouds of the dreaded Canis fly swarming, preparing to drive anglers insane as they watch fish repeatedly rising and then completely ignoring the beautifully tied olive, which they have presented like a fly fishing BOSS who should have their own TV show. OHHHHH the dreaded CANIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
The video doesn't really do justice to how thick or long the swarm was, they were every where.

And fulfilling all dietary requirements, dinner tonight, Mr Trout, will consist of Canis soup, followed by Canis salad, and for desert – I think you’ll like it, rather unusual – Canis crumble.

The Hawthorn Cup

Hi All
The Hawthorn Cup was fished yesterday and what started out as a damp morning turned into a sunny day which ensured a smile was kept on the faces of all. Water levels were perfect, the river temperature was higher than at any time over the last few months. Fishing was steady all day with good returns from several anglers. The result was quite tight in the end with two anglers fighting it out for top spot, in the end with a total of 78 inches Gianluca had it won by 2.5 inches over Edward in second with 75.5 inches, Jason was third with 49 inches. Very well done Gianluca a very deserved win he worked hard for and well done to all who fished on such a lovely day. Below are some pictures taken on the day.

Patricks Day Comp

Hi All
The postponed due to snow St Patricks day competition was held as rescheduled on Sunday last, the weather which scuppered our plans last weekend was far more kind to us this weekend with a beautiful sunny morning greeting all. This was the first year with our renamed trophy which now proudly carries the name of Jimmy Carroll one of our oldest members and champion of the Rye River for more years than any of us can remember. Well Jimmy must have been looking down on us because the weather was good the river height, clarity and temperature were all good and it bore out with the fishing with most of our members having a good day with a few fish and lots of banter as well. Single largest fish was the order of the day and Sean Meila was the man to catch it, a fine trout of 16.5 inches, this was Seans first win in any of our competitions and Im sure you will all join us in congratulating him, well done Sean. Dermot Mitchell was second with a 13 inch fish & Martin O'Dachowski was third with a 12 inch. A big thanks to Donal & Aidan for their efforts in feeding all who attended well done lads. Below are a few pictures taken on the day.

1st March 2018 is nearly upon us

Hi All
Well its nearly here the elusive 1st of March, it only shows itself once a year so get those rods cleaned, those reels oiled, all those little flies in a line all regimented like little soldiers ready to do battle and that fly line out stretched & conditioned, because when its gone its gone. OMG it really has been too long a wait I'm starting to turn into JR Hartly 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. Joking aside hopefully the stars align for us this year and the river will be fishable the temperature will be up and the sun out and we will have a whale of a time.
Hope to see you all out there on the 1st............... well not necessarily all of you, its not that big a river there would be no where left for anyone to fish.
