Lake Boats

Leixlip Anglers have boats on three lakes, Lough Owel, Lough Sheelin and Lough Lene. These boats are free for members' use. The Owel and Sheelin can be booked by phoning Dave Gadd (087)6206771. For details of the Lough Lene boat see below. Members using the boats for the first time should consult an ordinance survey map of the area. The maps used in this blog are available from the Inland Fisheries Ireland or may be downloaded from their website.

Lough Owel
Our Lough Owel boat is moored at the Pumphouse. The pumphouse is fairly difficult to find. Take the N4 as far as Lough Owel. When you are opposite Church Island you can either take a left in the direction of Jack Doolan's boat hire or you can continue on the N4 and take a left at the top of the lake. A good ordinance survey map is invaluable in this area. The pumphouse is a great location for the boat and anglers need go no further than the pumphouse reeds for some good fishing.

Lough Sheelin
The Lough Sheelin boat is kept at Chamber's Bay. The quickest way (1 hour 15 mins)is to take the M3 to Virginia and then take the R194 to Granard. About four miles after Ballyjamesduff there are two T junctions on the R194.Chambers bay is 3.2 miles from this junction on the R194. Watch out for the Fisheries Board sign. For anglers that use SAT NAV the fishery board office is at longitude 07 21 0.411 west and latitude 53 49 3.832 north.

20 meters after the Fisheries Board sign you will see the  green gate which leads to the bay.

The boat is kept on the right hand side of the bay. The number to unlock it is 0877 and the row locks are kept under the front floor plate
Fishing can be very good to the left and right shore when coming out of this bay.

Lough Lene
The Lene boat is kept at Tommy Fagan's farm and Tommy takes care of the booking. Anglers must leave €5 at Tommy's house when they take the keys from his porch. It is necessary to phone Tommy to book the boat. (086)1691231 Lough Lene is a private lake and anglers must pay €15 each for a day's fishing or take out annual membership. Tommy lives in a white bungalow marked by the arrow on the map.
